Kottu, Fair & Lovely cream, Michale Jackson...& my stupid posts..

Readership of Kottu is such an enigma.. that much i know.. most of the serious posts i come up with go unheeded, and then some stupid post with a sarcastic twist stems serious discussion.. that was the fact with my previous post titled "Michale Jackson's legacy in South Asia"..

I just wanted to make some fun out of the dead mans skin color and our 'yearn' to be fair..and hey presto.. some serious discussion follows on the comments box!

Of course, this whole 'wanting to be fairer' thing is not something that came up with the open economy (nor MJ's music).. its been there from time immemorial and Sam has aptly pointed that out with the best ever example..the Sigiri Chicks..and also in our aged old tradition of depicting Gods and Deities with dark skin in blue..

Anyway Michale Jackson has nothing to do with this but of course his legacy in this part of the world is that his music opened up pop culture and a more western approach to a society that was slowly embracing a market economy and opened so many doors in so many unseen ways.. how good or bad that was, I'm not an expert to say..

But one thing is for sure, that man is an icon..will be missed and may he rest in peace!

As for Anon1&2,Liberal Lanka, Dee and Sam, many thanks for your valuable comments and insights and also for reading my blog!

Michale Jackson's legacy for South Asia-Skin Bleach

Yes, we all know it, we get bombarded by it on TV.. wanting to be 'Fair and Lovely" the dark skins urge to be fair skins..
That's the unending legacy of Michale Jackson left for this part of the world..like Jacko,we too want to be like suddha and its the same same story in India,Bangladesh and Nepal (where its big business and part of daily life of not only well to do types but with almost struggling types too..) ...
Even far east as Burma and Laos, its the same story..even in remote and poverty stricken areas of India, some of the most needed commodities are 'fair and lovely' cream...

KP<TE Inc. on Michael Jackson's Death

Death of Michael Jackson has been a shocker for all most all... in a statement issued to the press Kumanran Pathmanadan or KP, hitherto leader and the President of the Provisional Transitional Dreamland of Tamil Eelam has stated that it was with great sadness that they remember both Michael Jackson and their dear late Leader Vellupillai Pirapaharan, who both perfected the art of moonwalk and added that it was the LTTE like Michael Jackson who had a special place for young children, especially boys..and to who grew up with "Thriller" and "Beat It" in their minds..but of course unlike Jakho,LTTE played with the music of violence said KP.

Projected 'Liberation' ...

[pix by unknown]

As part of the renewed campaign for the liberation of Aung San Suu Kyi, the European Parliament has projected her image onto one of its Brussels buildings, along with its message in English and Burmese saying "Free Aung San Suu Kyi now" ...

Projecting pictures of imprisoned political leaders on walls of a Parliament in far away European capital is not going to get Suu Kyi released , instead the people inside the very Parliament can tell countries like France and Germany to stop dealing with Myanmar in terms of joint Oil and Gas exploration/extraction (France) and Iron ore/Minerals (Germany) trade.

But in a realistic world this doesn't happen but in the name of 'Liberation' they project pictures on their walls.

Western duplicity at its best.

why you should always check your child's homework

a good one...below is the accompanying text i got along with the pix..very funny!

"This is why you should always check your child's homework before they go to school:
[see Image]
(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)

Dear Mrs. Jones,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.
I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow
shovel
we had at Home Depot.
From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.
Sincerely, Mrs. Smith "

Raw Papaya juice as a Dengue Fever Remedy-can someone confirm this?

I got the following chain mail about the use of raw Papaya juice as a remedy for Dengue fever.according to the e-mail its a successful remedy and cites some occasions where it had shown remarkable improvements in some patients.

E-mail itself carried the signature of one Medical Doctor Dr Newton Jayawardana,Consultant Surgeon at the Teaching Hospital in Ragama. But I'm not so sure if he is the originator of this mail nor he is the one who is confirming this remedy after clinical test however, if raw Papaya juice is indeed a remedy i think it will change the whole dynamics of the current fear of the threat of Dengue epidemic as Papaya leaves is something widely available in almost all parts of Sri Lanka, especially in Dengue prone parts.

I wonder if someone with Medical background can confirm this.. Below i reproduce the e-mail in full:

Dengue Fever Remedy

I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's
son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the
critical stage at the ICU when his blood platelet count drops to 15 after !
15 liters of blood transfusion. His father was so worried that he seeks
another friend's recommendation   and his son was saved. He confessed to me
that he gave his son raw juice  of the papaya leaves. From a platelet count
of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, and after drinking the raw
papaya leaf juice, his platelet count jumps instantly to 135. Even the
doctors and nurses were   surprised. After the second day he was discharged.
So he asked me to pass this good news around.

Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves, 2pcs just cleaned and pound and squeeze
with filter cloth. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf. So  two!
Tablespoon per serving once a day. Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot
water, it will loose its strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap.
It is very bitter and you have to swallow it like "Won Low Kat". But it
works.

Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue

You may have heard this elsewhere but if not, I am glad to inform you that
papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is  rampant
now, I think it's good to share this with all. A friend of mine had dengue
last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had
dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up
her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor
says there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune
system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She !
already had 2   blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as
her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted.
Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce
the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out
for it. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever
subsided. We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after
3 days!!!

Amazing but it's true. It's believed one's body would be overheated when
one is down with dengue and that also caused the patient to have fever.
Papaya juice has cooling effect. Thus, it helps to reduce the level of heat
in one's body, thus the fever will go away. I found that it's also good when
one is having sore throat or suffering from heat. Please spread the news
about this as lately there are many dengue cases. It's great if such natural
cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue patients. Furthermore it's
so easily available. Blend them, squeeze the juice, drink immediately! It's
simple and  miraculously effective!!

Rebel of Kandy on breaking the Eelam myth

Rebel of Kandy has couple of very interesting posts on the myth of Tamil homeland and breaking Eelam in his blog. he has started to go into historical details and doesn't get bogged down with rhetoric.. i think every one interested in problems faced by this country needs to read Rebels blog posts and follow Rebels future writings..

I also recommend this to Ms.Janani 'Genocied Jan' Jananayagam and Professor Bruce 'Hawaii five O'  Fein to read well and read bloody well..and get a hold of the historical context and then have a reality check.

Of course , I'm not so sure if
Ms.Janani 'Genocied Jan' Jananayagam can overcome her chronic constipation by just reading Rebels blog since her defeat in MEP elections may have increased her frustrations over people in Europe ,especially European Tamils and by the monumental let down by the Diaspora against 'genocide' flop!

M.I.A & LTTE Inc.Donate Cargo Ship to Sri Lanka Navy Today..

With great appreciation and humility, the Sri Lanka Navy received the donation of cargo ship MS Captain Ali today ,said in a statement issued by the Navy Headquarters in Colombo.

Ship was captained by a fat Icelandic gentlemen of dubious character accused (believed to be true..) of being a reputed international smuggler and provider of support to terrorists, Mr. Kristjan Guðmundsson and was seen sweating his fat ass in the presence of Sri Lanka Navy personnel at the time of handover.

Mr. Guðmundsson speaking on behalf of Mr.Arjunan Ethirveerasingam, the Coordinator and chief-at-large of LTTE Inc's 'Charity fundraising section'' said the donation was made possible by the support of celebrity personalities in the likes of International recording star and multimedia artist Maya Arulpragasam (M.I.A) and charity organisation like LTTE Inc.,the fully owned International subsidiary of LTTE of Sri Lanka.

Sadly there were no representatives of LTTE Inc.'s Sri Lanka based mother charity the LTTE due to it going out of business few weeks back.

Nevertheless LTTE Inc.representatives present said the LTTE Inc.has a avid following overseas, especially in Western nations like UK,Canada,France and mostly Scandinavian counties like Norway,Sweden etc.,and pledged it will continue to support 'peace' activities in Sri Lanka in the years to come.

Sri Lanka Navy representatives added that from 2006 to 2009 it had encountered nine other 'mercy missions' to Vanni and further said it was proud to be able to help such missions to achieve its ultimate goal of setting up artificial underwater reefs in the Indian Ocean.

MS Captain Ali will be commissioned as L009 and will enter Sri Lanka Navy service soon after its refitted with standard Navy systems and armaments and will contribute to logistical service's of Govt of Sri Lanka in ferrying much needed material and goods to North and Eastern Ports of Sri Lanka,Navy representatives further added.
