2009 Ends..

2009 has been a momentous year for Sri Lanka.. 2009 saw the end of a once thought an unending nightmare for Sri Lanka , the LTTE.hence in my view the best pix to describe 2009 is above..

The dead body of V.Prabakaran, the leader of LTTE laying with part of his head blown off symbolized the end of 3+decades of pain and suffering of all peoples of this country..and thus we walk into a new decade ..a new dawn for Sri Lanka, free of its cancer..

Good riddance 2009 ..good riddance LTTE ...

Remembering the Tsunami-5 Years on..

Google Earth image of Hanbantota town taken 28th January 2005,just over a month after the dreadful Tsunami of 26 December 2004..Sea entered the Bay and washed everything in its path all the way to the Lagoon..thus taking away many lives.. loved once..livelihoods...

My friend Granvil still wonders about his Wife and two Sons..day in day out he is seen trying to catch a glimpse of his two small Sons in the murky waters of the Maha Levaya Lagoon..time heals they say..5 years on.. Granvil is still a broken man..time stood still for him i guess..

Someone upstairs please bless this man to move on..end his suffering..

This is to you Granvil..

Wishing all a Peaceful and Happy Christmas...

Wishers coming from a long and empty transit hall of a South East Asian Airport..alone and tired.. dreaming of home.. saddened by lost connections and canceled flights.. angry over no visa's and restrictions ..dreaming of lights burning bright at home..

I hope you all are enjoying the spirit of the day wherever in Sri Lanka today..

Best to you all...

Multi Barrels of a bygone era...

Yes,there's not much talk about the Multi Barrels now.. I remember a decade back while having a hair cut at the local Barber shop..this particular 'hair stylist' (he he..) was telling me about the importance of Govt.purchasing MBRL's .This was a Tamil guy from Nuwara Eliya.. guess he was anti-LTTE! wonder whats his take on Gen.Sarath Fonseka entering politics..

Pix are from my many months old excursion to get a free massage (while negotiating the sea of people) and a glimpse of the tax payers Rups.at work over 60 years of defence spending and fight against terror..

MBRL in Pix 1 was kindly provided to the LTTE by Overseas Tamils in the name of Liberation while MBRL in Pix 2. was what Govt used to actually liberate the LTTE from its own misery...

Either way, I'm happy that both are silent and safely with Sri Lankan Army's care and LTTE is gone!

Mini Skirted Militia in China and Sri Lanka Army at 60

After some time lost in the boonies, found a great pix to stage my return to Kottu..

Pix is from China's official Xinhua news agency and is of a mini skirted Militia which was part of a big military parade, and it's pretty sweet.check the legs.. mmmmmmm....imagination running wild...

Parade, which marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, featured more than 8,000 servicemen and women, nearly 500 tanks, missiles and other military vehicles and a flyover by Chinese warplanes...

Last week i spent a field day amidst a sea of people ...rubbing shoulders at the Army's 60th Anniversary exhibition at BMICH concluded recently..

Funny... SL Army at 60 while China itself is turning 60...lions share of the Army's arsenal is of Chinese origin..may be 60 different types of weapon systems ...anyway, i can't keep my eyes off the Chinese mini skirt Militia pix..and think its time the SL Army comes up with one too..considering the fact that there will be more parades than combat in the near future, this will be a very much welcome development. ..

IOM toilet training for refugees in Myanmar-Thailand border

Pix is a poster that's part of IOM's 10 day training for Burmese refugees who are destined for resettlement in US.. idea is to train the refugees in the ways and means of the new country they will live and in this case its the US..

Sadly the training is just 10 days, that include basic English, culture and life in US,currency etc...and part of that training include the use of airplane toilets as they will be flying from Thailand to US..

Most of these people have never been to a school nor have a clue outside the world of Refugee camps in Thai-Burma border.. and majority had never seen a proper Bus let alone a Plane!!!!!

I can't imagine their shock and horror of an alien land when they land in US..i wanted to post this few weeks back to coincide with International Refugee Day..but never made it..

Kottu, Fair & Lovely cream, Michale Jackson...& my stupid posts..

Readership of Kottu is such an enigma.. that much i know.. most of the serious posts i come up with go unheeded, and then some stupid post with a sarcastic twist stems serious discussion.. that was the fact with my previous post titled "Michale Jackson's legacy in South Asia"..

I just wanted to make some fun out of the dead mans skin color and our 'yearn' to be fair..and hey presto.. some serious discussion follows on the comments box!

Of course, this whole 'wanting to be fairer' thing is not something that came up with the open economy (nor MJ's music).. its been there from time immemorial and Sam has aptly pointed that out with the best ever example..the Sigiri Chicks..and also in our aged old tradition of depicting Gods and Deities with dark skin in blue..

Anyway Michale Jackson has nothing to do with this but of course his legacy in this part of the world is that his music opened up pop culture and a more western approach to a society that was slowly embracing a market economy and opened so many doors in so many unseen ways.. how good or bad that was, I'm not an expert to say..

But one thing is for sure, that man is an icon..will be missed and may he rest in peace!

As for Anon1&2,Liberal Lanka, Dee and Sam, many thanks for your valuable comments and insights and also for reading my blog!

Michale Jackson's legacy for South Asia-Skin Bleach

Yes, we all know it, we get bombarded by it on TV.. wanting to be 'Fair and Lovely" the dark skins urge to be fair skins..
That's the unending legacy of Michale Jackson left for this part of the world..like Jacko,we too want to be like suddha and its the same same story in India,Bangladesh and Nepal (where its big business and part of daily life of not only well to do types but with almost struggling types too..) ...
Even far east as Burma and Laos, its the same story..even in remote and poverty stricken areas of India, some of the most needed commodities are 'fair and lovely' cream...

KP<TE Inc. on Michael Jackson's Death

Death of Michael Jackson has been a shocker for all most all... in a statement issued to the press Kumanran Pathmanadan or KP, hitherto leader and the President of the Provisional Transitional Dreamland of Tamil Eelam has stated that it was with great sadness that they remember both Michael Jackson and their dear late Leader Vellupillai Pirapaharan, who both perfected the art of moonwalk and added that it was the LTTE like Michael Jackson who had a special place for young children, especially boys..and to who grew up with "Thriller" and "Beat It" in their minds..but of course unlike Jakho,LTTE played with the music of violence said KP.

Projected 'Liberation' ...

[pix by unknown]

As part of the renewed campaign for the liberation of Aung San Suu Kyi, the European Parliament has projected her image onto one of its Brussels buildings, along with its message in English and Burmese saying "Free Aung San Suu Kyi now" ...

Projecting pictures of imprisoned political leaders on walls of a Parliament in far away European capital is not going to get Suu Kyi released , instead the people inside the very Parliament can tell countries like France and Germany to stop dealing with Myanmar in terms of joint Oil and Gas exploration/extraction (France) and Iron ore/Minerals (Germany) trade.

But in a realistic world this doesn't happen but in the name of 'Liberation' they project pictures on their walls.

Western duplicity at its best.

why you should always check your child's homework

a good one...below is the accompanying text i got along with the pix..very funny!

"This is why you should always check your child's homework before they go to school:
[see Image]
(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)

Dear Mrs. Jones,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.
I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow
shovel
we had at Home Depot.
From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.
Sincerely, Mrs. Smith "

Raw Papaya juice as a Dengue Fever Remedy-can someone confirm this?

I got the following chain mail about the use of raw Papaya juice as a remedy for Dengue fever.according to the e-mail its a successful remedy and cites some occasions where it had shown remarkable improvements in some patients.

E-mail itself carried the signature of one Medical Doctor Dr Newton Jayawardana,Consultant Surgeon at the Teaching Hospital in Ragama. But I'm not so sure if he is the originator of this mail nor he is the one who is confirming this remedy after clinical test however, if raw Papaya juice is indeed a remedy i think it will change the whole dynamics of the current fear of the threat of Dengue epidemic as Papaya leaves is something widely available in almost all parts of Sri Lanka, especially in Dengue prone parts.

I wonder if someone with Medical background can confirm this.. Below i reproduce the e-mail in full:

Dengue Fever Remedy

I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's
son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the
critical stage at the ICU when his blood platelet count drops to 15 after !
15 liters of blood transfusion. His father was so worried that he seeks
another friend's recommendation   and his son was saved. He confessed to me
that he gave his son raw juice  of the papaya leaves. From a platelet count
of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, and after drinking the raw
papaya leaf juice, his platelet count jumps instantly to 135. Even the
doctors and nurses were   surprised. After the second day he was discharged.
So he asked me to pass this good news around.

Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves, 2pcs just cleaned and pound and squeeze
with filter cloth. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf. So  two!
Tablespoon per serving once a day. Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot
water, it will loose its strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap.
It is very bitter and you have to swallow it like "Won Low Kat". But it
works.

Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue

You may have heard this elsewhere but if not, I am glad to inform you that
papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is  rampant
now, I think it's good to share this with all. A friend of mine had dengue
last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had
dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up
her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor
says there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune
system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She !
already had 2   blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as
her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted.
Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce
the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out
for it. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever
subsided. We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after
3 days!!!

Amazing but it's true. It's believed one's body would be overheated when
one is down with dengue and that also caused the patient to have fever.
Papaya juice has cooling effect. Thus, it helps to reduce the level of heat
in one's body, thus the fever will go away. I found that it's also good when
one is having sore throat or suffering from heat. Please spread the news
about this as lately there are many dengue cases. It's great if such natural
cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue patients. Furthermore it's
so easily available. Blend them, squeeze the juice, drink immediately! It's
simple and  miraculously effective!!

Rebel of Kandy on breaking the Eelam myth

Rebel of Kandy has couple of very interesting posts on the myth of Tamil homeland and breaking Eelam in his blog. he has started to go into historical details and doesn't get bogged down with rhetoric.. i think every one interested in problems faced by this country needs to read Rebels blog posts and follow Rebels future writings..

I also recommend this to Ms.Janani 'Genocied Jan' Jananayagam and Professor Bruce 'Hawaii five O'  Fein to read well and read bloody well..and get a hold of the historical context and then have a reality check.

Of course , I'm not so sure if
Ms.Janani 'Genocied Jan' Jananayagam can overcome her chronic constipation by just reading Rebels blog since her defeat in MEP elections may have increased her frustrations over people in Europe ,especially European Tamils and by the monumental let down by the Diaspora against 'genocide' flop!

M.I.A & LTTE Inc.Donate Cargo Ship to Sri Lanka Navy Today..

With great appreciation and humility, the Sri Lanka Navy received the donation of cargo ship MS Captain Ali today ,said in a statement issued by the Navy Headquarters in Colombo.

Ship was captained by a fat Icelandic gentlemen of dubious character accused (believed to be true..) of being a reputed international smuggler and provider of support to terrorists, Mr. Kristjan Guðmundsson and was seen sweating his fat ass in the presence of Sri Lanka Navy personnel at the time of handover.

Mr. Guðmundsson speaking on behalf of Mr.Arjunan Ethirveerasingam, the Coordinator and chief-at-large of LTTE Inc's 'Charity fundraising section'' said the donation was made possible by the support of celebrity personalities in the likes of International recording star and multimedia artist Maya Arulpragasam (M.I.A) and charity organisation like LTTE Inc.,the fully owned International subsidiary of LTTE of Sri Lanka.

Sadly there were no representatives of LTTE Inc.'s Sri Lanka based mother charity the LTTE due to it going out of business few weeks back.

Nevertheless LTTE Inc.representatives present said the LTTE Inc.has a avid following overseas, especially in Western nations like UK,Canada,France and mostly Scandinavian counties like Norway,Sweden etc.,and pledged it will continue to support 'peace' activities in Sri Lanka in the years to come.

Sri Lanka Navy representatives added that from 2006 to 2009 it had encountered nine other 'mercy missions' to Vanni and further said it was proud to be able to help such missions to achieve its ultimate goal of setting up artificial underwater reefs in the Indian Ocean.

MS Captain Ali will be commissioned as L009 and will enter Sri Lanka Navy service soon after its refitted with standard Navy systems and armaments and will contribute to logistical service's of Govt of Sri Lanka in ferrying much needed material and goods to North and Eastern Ports of Sri Lanka,Navy representatives further added.

Great leaders and leadership of LTTE for tomorrow and beyond..

Great Leader Kim Il Sung and Dear Leader Kim Jong Il of North Korea and Great Leader and Sun God V.Prabakaran and Great War Hero and Warrior of the new Liberation Tigers Gen.Charles Anthony of mythical state of Eelam..(that once was..)

"i have both pix framed on my living room wall, they give me inspiration and great strength..." said Vaiko.

By the way, that porker Charles Anthony needs to shed some Kg, if he to succeed his father's reign of terror, especially given the fact that he has to lead the 'LTTE of tomorrow' from deep inside a toilet pit under some Cadjan hut in some desolate corner of Mullativu..

Or may be he'll be picked up by a LTTE merchant ship and be taken to Pyongyang to join the Great Leader..

[ dose a wider waistline add up as a serious criteria for succession? ]

UK wants Vedha chief protected

UK Govt wants to send over a special representative on Vedha issues, as the news spread of a threat on the life of Vedha Chief yesterday. already the UK Parliament has appointed some retired civil servant and a few former MPs who are now on UKs LTTE front organizations payroll as a parliamentary group on Vedha community in Sri Lanka and called on the Govt here to do more to stop 'threats emanating from within the Government against LTTE and its supporters in Vanni' ..

When contacts the Vedha chief was surprised to find the UK Parliaments move and further recalled how his father had told him about not trusting the Sudda for the simple reason of how they had chased the Vedha out of their traditional lands during the colonial period and recalls the suddha cutting trees and doing big game hunting ,while prosecuting the Vedha for 'destroying Crown fauna and flora' and further added that the Police had already recoded a statement and are conducting an investigation over the threat and further said  "any suddha can come but we know how to deal with the sudda and the people who threaten us"...and  ended by saying "sudda will use the threat to highlight something totally different to the problem at hand.."

As i write this, Dr.Jehan Perera has already condemned the threats against the Vedha chief and is calling the Govt. to go for a ceasefire with the LTTE and reconsider a plan by some Flower Road based 'Civil Society' group to grant federal powers to LTTE in Vanni with a Norwegian Government funded NGO to administer the territory 'in trust' ,so to ensure the safety of the Vedha community in South-Eastern Sri Lanka!

And all this is for the safety of the Vedha I'm told!

Dammn Mexican Pigs...says Prabakaran ..

First it was the Lashkar-e-Toiba boys ..now the Mexican Pigs..

Even before VP could open his mouth for what may possibly be his last 'State of Terror' speech, last November , the World tuned its eyes to Mumbai for fireworks there and now as the International Community hoards descend down on the Sri Lankan Capital with its bailout plan to save the endangered and soon to be extinct two legged Tigers of Sri Lanka, some Pig in Mexico takes to flight...

What a twist of fate for the once ferocious Tiger that used to feed on the flesh and blood of the innocent of Sri Lanka...

Pina's comment on my " LTTE:Then and Now" post...

An interesting comment made by 'Pina' in response to my previous post " LTTE:Then and Now"...

Pina said:

It's indeed an apt creation as it depicts the true position of the LTTE at present.

The emblem itself have been designed to create a fear-psychosis: giving a sense of invincibility. But that monumental myth has well been proved wrong by valiant SL armed forces. It's surprising to see the shameful & cowardly manner in which the so called military genius "Sun God" fled the battle field and escaped without facing the SL military leaving behind all his mansions. It's unbelievable & to see how this military genius "Sun God" hide behind the civilians and try all his best to muster Diaspora to force western governments and UN to persuade SL government to stop the military onslaught.

What a shame to the invincible "Sun God" who was portrayed as an iron hearted Tiger king!

Pina- many thanks for the comment and also for reading my Blog!

on Targeting Civilians, abductions and torture...what we can learn from West..

there is an increased call for 'ceasefire' from West (and the UN ) mostly the former co-chairs (minus Japan) and UK and France.they also wage wars against terrorism like we do.. US and others as part of NATO under the cover of UN mandates and operates in places like Iraq and Afghanistan..

while they accuse us of-

a.  Targeting Civilians-                 they call it Kinetic events
b.  Abductions/Disappearances-   they call it Extraordinary Rendition
c.  Torture-                                 they call it 'Near Permissible interrogation'

all this double standards are for us smaller countries.. while they sponsor countries like Israel,Columbia,Turkey etc to continue with their aggression against civilians...while all this talk of ceasefire is nothing but an attempt to throw a life line at the LTTE, we have to really take stock of our real friends now!

as for Norway, when the Taliban almost killed their Foreign Minister and his team at a Kabul Hotel in 2008 , they didn't offer to go into talks with Taliban but instead increased their contribution to ISAF..

anyway, above pix i reproduce here as a reminder of how Western Countries wage wars against terror and preach us with protecting rights!

The Chimpanzee cartoon that was in the middle of the eye of the storm..I'm sure you can read all about in the international press, especially US press.. and likes of Pres.Obama and the stimulus bill etc..but i wonder what would happen to Sean Delonas, the creator of this cartoon had he had done something on the same lines to a national paper in Sri Lanka, with our 'you know who' captioned...

guess Mr.Delonas might get his car blocked by 4 motorbikes on his way to work tomorrow..and the rest..well' I'm sure you can imagine..

New map of the Tamil EELAM

Not sure who the creator of this map is,however i think it reflects pretty well how the next stage of myth of so called Eelam is going to be played ,especially considering the events thats unfolding in Vanni now days!!

Good luck to Norway, I'm sure its a much welcomed change for them!

by the way, new LTTE Press ,the successor of the one thats in the hands of the Army in Putukkudirippu must be busy printing glossy calenders for 2009, depicting smiling V.Prabakaran next to the new Eelam map!

LTTE Press in Putukkudirippu and CPA's Saama Vimarshi Magazine

Above are few selected pictures of the LTTE Press in Putukkudirippu, recently capture by the Sri Lanka Army's 57 Division.whats interesting is that few pictures depict CPAs' Saama Vimarshi or Peace Monitor mags among the LTTE propaganda material.

Tri lingual Saama Vimarshi was published by the CPA under its Peace and Media Unit and was headed by its former Director, so called Journalist Mr.Sunanda Deshapriya and Mr.Lionel Guruge. while former has fled overseas, currently based in Chennai,India citing threats to his life (actually running away from funders, due to failing to account for his finances! ) latter is still with the CPA.

I guess CPA may have sub contracted the LTTE press to print Saama Vimarshi as a measure of confidence/trust building and building capacity of the LTTE for its 'peacetime' role!

I'm sure Mr.Guruge has valid reasons for using the LTTE Press, but my sadness is of those glossy calenders of V.Prabakaran are not going to be on the walls of CPA and other LTTE institutions and LTTE camps this year around due to 'anti peace' actions of the Govt.of Sri Lanka.

above is from Divaina of 04 Feb. 09.. Cartoon by M.D Weerarathna of Divaina.i think it reflects the sentiments of the people of this country and the reasons for a gathering storm overseas ,against the Govt., in sympathy of the almost crumbled LTTE and its era of Terror.
